Impact of anemia in the course of cardiovascular disease

Anemia, defined according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization as a decrease in hemoglobin levels <130 g/l in men and 120 g/l in women, is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The review describes the main pathophysiological mechanisms of the connection between anemia and cardiovascular diseases, summarizes the results of relatively recent studies in this field, and discusses their significance in clinical practice.
