Comparative efficacy of a new sucrosomal form of iron for oral administration and intravenous ferrotherapy in the treatment of anemia in patients with inflammatory bowel disease

The article describes the role of iron deficiency in the development of anemia in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and existing treatment approaches. Insufficient efficacy and poor tolerability of standard iron preparations are discussed, which is associated with the presence of malabsorption and chronic inflammation of the intestinal wall. The aim of this work was to determine the efficacy of the standard treatment approach using intravenous iron preparations in comparison with the new oral sucrosomal Sideral Forte iron form in patients with anemia in IBD. The material included data from 57 patients with anemia and IBD. The results of examination of 28 patients and treatment of 29 patients with anemia and IBD were analysed, of whom 14 patients received Sideral Forte and 15 received intravenous ferrotherapy. According to the results of the study, hypochromic, normochromic, microcytic, and normocytic anemias are always associated with impaired iron metabolism in IBD. The results of the above groups of iron preparations use for 3 months showed a significant increase in hemoglobin and serum iron concentrations, with a more significant effect of oral sucrosomal iron for normalization of hemoglobin concentration.
