The organs of the gastrointestinal tract are essential in the regulation of iron metabolism and hematopoiesis. Iron deficiency accompanies a large number of gastroenterological diseases. The article discusses the problems of anemia diagnostics and treatment, describes the mechanisms of anemia development associated with bleeding, malabsorption and chronic inflammation. Modern data on the use of oral and intravenous iron preparations, advantages of a new form of liposomal iron for oral use in the treatment of anemia in gastrointestinal disease.
